Apply for the Nordic Swan Ecolabel

If this is your first time applying to have your products or services certified, here's what to do.

1. Read guide
   Prepare your application by reading the guide to a good certification process
   

2. Find the criteria page
   On the page with criteria for your product/service you will find criteria, prices and information on how to apply and submit documentation.
   
   The form of application depends on the product group concerned. This is because Nordic Ecolabelling is in the process of digitising the application process for all product groups.
   

3. Fill out the application
   When filling out the application, you must be aware of choosing the application type "new".
   

4. Submit the documentation – or upload it digitally
   The criteria and prices page for your product group shows you how to submit the documentation.

If you want to add products to your certification, e.g., extend you certification with a new packaging size on an already certified product in a new size or add a new market where the products are being sold, you must apply for an extension.

And if you want to change something in your certification, you must apply for a change. For example, it can be in the composition or production of your products.

Please note that if you want to extend your certification to another product group, you must make a new application. Example: You have obtained a certification on furniture and want to expand to textiles.

If you want to expand to another commodity group within the same product group, you must also make a new application. You will find the commodity groups under prices. Example: Cosmetics consist of 5 different commodity groups, and you want to apply for a different commodity group than the one you already have certification for.

If you want to add a new production site to an existing certification, you must also make a new application.

2. Fill out the application and submit documentation
   When filling out the application, you must be aware of choosing the application type "extension" or "change" on your existing certification.

Your certification is valid for as long as the environmental criteria are valid. To ensure that products with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel are among the environmentally best within their category, the criteria are tightened approx. every 4-5 years.

This means that your certification will expire at the same time as the old criteria expire. You must therefore make sure to renew your certification before the old criteria expire in order to continue using the Nordic Swan Ecolabel on your products and in marketing.

There will be a transition period of about a year during which both the old and the new criteria apply and during which you can apply for renewal. The renewal fee is typically halved compared to a new application.

   When filling out the application, you must be aware of choosing the application type "renewal", and if you apply digitally, you must click on the license that you want to renew.
