Product licence
A product licence is for product owners, brand owners and retailers who own brands (private labels included).
A garment can never be certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel without a product licence. Therefore, you must apply for a product licence if you want to sell a Nordic Swan Ecolabel textile product.
A product licence is based on one or more manufacturing licences in addition to extra requirements. Products on the licence need to specify which manufacturing licensee is used and which textile item(s) they are based upon.
What to inform your manufacturer about?
Before you can have a product licence, your manufacturer needs a manufacturer licence. However, the brand owner can also choose to take both types of licence themselves.
A manufacturing licence includes all relevant declarations from the supply chain – and gives the right to produce for product licences within the product area specified in the manufacturing licence.
Please, ask your manufacturer to read more about the licence and the application process here.
Please also tell for your manufacturer exactly which textile items you need (eg: “white t-shirt in 100% cotton”). This is important to make sure that the product area is specified in the manufacturing licence.
